The Lagos Architects’ Forum 2015 organized by the Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Architects held between the 6th and the 9th of May, 2015 at the Expo Center of the Eko Hotel and Suites on the Victoria Island in Lagos. The 4-day event had several speakers from Nigeria and around the world speak on various topics bordering on “The Business of Architecture”, the theme of this year’s conference. There were several building materials, products and components on display at the exhibition which ran through20150509_140909_Richtone(HDR)out the period. Mr. Ayoola Onajide, Principal Partner of ATO Architects spoke on local and international design competitions.

On the last day of the conference, we had the privilege of hosting a large group of the conference delegates at the ATO Studios. Ugo Chris-Aluta guided participants through the building as she explained the guiding principles of the design of the office building, especially its sustainable features. Built on a land area of 470 square meters, the building is on 2 floors with a penthouse at the 3rd level.

The building is a long rectangle with its shorter sides facing the East-West direction.20150509_141700_Richtone(HDR)20150509_142559_Richtone(HDR) Large windows with solar control glass significantly reduces solar radiation experienced in the building’s interior, especially in the main drawing office which has the most glass. Windows are operable for natural ventilation when required and all toilets are dual flush.
