We were invited by Bristow Helicopters to design a passenger terminal exclusively for the use of Shell Petroleum Development Company, on a site across the tarmac from its existing facilities. Preliminary sketches of the proposed passenger terminal were prepared in November 1996. The building was conceived as a single block with an 18-meter barrel roof. To meet the client’s budget, the originally designed building size was reduced by 30%. A fast track design and tendering procedure was explored especially considering that 500 cubic meters of concrete would be required to extend the existing hard shoulder (taxiway) in a very short time. The contract was awarded on the 23rd of June 1997 to Messrs. Cappa and D’Alberto and was completed the following year.
