We were invited by Bristow Helicopters to design a passenger terminal exclusively for the use of Shell Petroleum Development Company, on a site across its existing facilities. Preliminary sketches of the proposed passenger terminal were prepared in November 1996. The building was conceived as a single block with an 18-meter barrel roof.
To meet the client’s budget, the originally designed building size was reduced by 30%. A fast-track design and tendering procedure were explored especially considering that 500 cubic meters of concrete would be required to extend the existing hard shoulder (taxiway) in a very short time. The contract was awarded on the 23rd of June 1997 to Messrs. Cappa and D’Alberto and was completed the following year.
The total contract sum included services and furniture and was completed at just over one million us dollars ($1million).
