SHELL PETROLEUM DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION’S (SPDC) IA-200 facility was completed this year. The project, located in Port-Harcourt, Nigeria was designed by ATO Architects Limited strictly following Shell’s Connect Workplace Design Standards. The building is a deep rectangle on 2 levels with a bow shaped roof. It had a structural steel frame with block work infill. The external walls are clad with aluminium and there is aluminium-framed curtain-walling on the front of the building. The windows are aluminium-framed windows with solar control glass.
The depth of the building necessitated the introduction of a large roof light to ensure that the entire interior receives adequate natural lighting.
The footprint of the building is 1804 square meters. The floor area of the 2nd floor has been reduced by voids which help to ensure that the natural light reaches the lower level of the building. The upper level is reached by means of two structural steel staircases which have granite treads. Ceilings are acoustic metal ceilings and wall partitions are fire-rated.
A bridge links the two sides of the building’s first floor level.
